A person has died after being struck by a train in Gwersyllt, near Wrexham.

A British Transport Police spokesman said they were called at 10.27am today to the line close to Stansty, to reports that a person had been struck by a train.

“Officers attended but a person was pronounced dead at the scene," the spokesman added.

“We are now working to identify that person and to inform their family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called today at approximately 10.30am to reports of an incident involving a pedestrian and a train in the Gwersyllt area of Wrexham.

"We responded with one rapid response vehicle and one emergency ambulance.”

National Rail posted on their website that services may be cancelled or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

"A person being hit by a train between Wrexham General and Shotton is causing disruption to journeys between these stations," they said.

Pat's Coaches are running a replacement bus service between Wrexham General and Bidston.

The disruption is set to last until 1pm.
