A PREGNANT woman was attacked by her partner who allegedly threatened to kill the baby inside her.

Matthew James Russell also told her she would not leave his Wrexham flat until he had murdered her, it was claimed in court.

Russell, 25, of Y Wern, Caia Park, admitted he assaulted his pregnant partner Melanie Booth occasioning actual bodily harm on May 15, but denied the verbal threats attributed to him.

An application for bail at Flintshire Magistrates Court was refused and he was remanded in custody by district judge Roger Lowe.

Prosecutor Rhian Jackson told the Mold court the couple had been in a three year relationship.

When she was assaulted she was 34 weeks pregnant with his child.

Mrs Jackson said the complainant was at his flat that night when his phone rang.

He was asleep, she got up and while she did not answer it she realised that call was from a female.

When he came through she asked him who the woman was and he told her she had no right to go through his phone.

He became abusive, she said she had not answered the phone but he punched her face.

She described it as “a big blow” and she felt blood trickling down her face.

He then threw a tea towel at her and told her to “clean her f…… face”.

Mrs Jackson said the complainant was crying but he attacked her again, punching her, and it was alleged that he said he was going to kill the baby inside her.

She was screaming at him and telling him to stop, her vision was blurred, and it was alleged that he said: “You are not leaving this f….. flat until I murder you.”

He later turned up at the door crying and apologising.

Police who were in the area for an unrelated matter saw her injuries and photographed them. She had extensive bruising to her face, legs and arms.

Interviewed, he gave no comment.

Andy Holliday, defending, said Russell accepted that he caused the injuries.

He had punched her face on two separate occasions but denied the words he was alleged to have used.

The judge said it would make no difference to sentence and the case could proceed without the need to call evidence on the issue.

The case was adjourned to a hearing at Wrexham Magistrates Court on May 30.
