A BODYBUILDING enthusiast died as a result of alcohol, an inquest heard.

Wrexham resident Marek Smolinski died on May 2017, aged 38.

He was discovered by his landlady at his home in Princess Street.

Resuming an inquest into Mr Smolinski's death at Ruthin last week, assistant coroner for North East Wales and Central Joanne Lees said he had moved to the UK from Poland earlier that year.

She explained Mr Smolinski, who according to other residents had been keen on bodybuilding, was found surrounded by alcohol bottles and diet supplements.

The hearing heard that Janusz Skrypczyk, another tenant in the property, had known Mr Smolinski for a matter of weeks before his death.

According to him, Mr Smolinski had said he was diabetic and that he used sports medication relating to bodybuilding - as well as the fact he drank alcohol.

A post mortem examination carried out on October 20 at Glan Clwyd Hospital found the cause of death to be a 'fatty liver' - which can cause a sudden death and is alcohol related.

Toxicology tests concluded that Mr Smolinski did have alcohol in his system when he died.

Mrs Lees accepted the cause of death and recorded a conclusion of an alcohol related death.
