PLANS are in the pipeline to build a dozen new homes on a former caravan site.

Wrexham Council has received proposals to develop 12 detached houses with garages on the former caravan site at Old Wrexham Road in Gresford.

The site is currently being used as a storage area for building materials and old cars.

A design and access statement submitted with the application states: "The site was previously used as a caravan site for 24 residential caravans with a detached bungalow and associated parking.

"The site is almost vacant and is now falling into disrepair and becoming a general nuisance and an eye sore.

"The new development will lift the area and remove the blight associated with the site. The proposed house typed are traditional in appearance being built of facing brickwork, with featured panels and concrete roof tile together with new UPVC windows which will sit well next to existing properties in the area."

The statement adds: "The current site is falling into decline and attracting some concern about poor environmental quality and anti-social behaviour.

"This well designed residential scheme will stem the decline and lead to improved community safety.

"The scale and massing of the development is slightly smaller than the development across the road known as the Pavilion development and more in line with other pockets of development in Gresford.

"Overall this is a well balanced development with dwellings and accommodation for people who wish to either move into or stay within the area."

The access will be the existing access previously used for the caravan site. The site has "excellent" public transport links, the surrounding roads are relatively quiet and would allow for safe cycling to local facilities,.

A pre-application consultation on the proposed development has already been carried out.

The council's planning committee will make a decision on the proposals at a future date.
