A LITTLE piece of history was made at Wednesday's Saltney Town Council annual meeting as Cllr Jason Shallcross became the first Saltney Town Mayor to be elected for a second year.

Cllr Stephen Rodham will replace Cllr Barrie Gregory as Deputy Town Mayor.

Cllr Shallcross explained what he and the council would look to expand upon and achieve in the town during his second term.

He said: "We are looking to build on the foundations of the previous year. We have got a new council office which we have not had for a long time, there is a proposal to build a new high school, we have an exciting new housing development on the old Allied Bakeries site and there is the new mental health drop-in service New Beginnings, which we are fully behind."

Cllr Gregory, who set up the drop-in service, added: "Saltney is on the border, but as mental health has no boundaries we do not discriminate anyone from coming in, whether they are from the Welsh side or from Chester.

"I used the service myself so I know how important it is. Hopefully it will go from strength to strength."
