A MAJOR boost has been announced for the areas transport links.
More than £2.2 million worth of transport grants are being invested in Flintshire, Wrexham and Denbighshire, Welsh Government transport secretary Ken Skates has announced.
The money will go towards programmes to improve safety, reduce congestion, create economic growth and promote active travel.
Council authorities were invited to submit applications for their priority schemes.
In Flintshire, Safe Routes in Communities funding will allow the introduction of a number of traffic calming measures around Broughton Primary School, Broughton and Mountain Lane County Primary School, Buckley.
There is also a boost for schemes in Wrexham such as a second phase of improvements on the A539 Cumbers Hill to Lion Lane Junction, Penley. This will see the provision of new signage, road markings, anti-skid surfacing and carriageway upgrades.
A further £624,000 has been provided for the three local authorities to progress active travel scheme development.
In addition, more than £257,000 will be made available to Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham for road safety education and training programmes for, in particular, high risk and vulnerable groups, such as children, young people, older drivers and motorcyclists.
Cabinet secretary for economy and transport Ken Skates said: “The grants are a substantial investment to support local economic growth, improve road safety, enhance public transport facilities and provide more and better routes that enable people in Wales to walk and cycle and to do so safely.
“I commend the range of schemes I’ve been able to announce today, and the high quality of applications we received across these grants.”

Broughton Hall Road – Introduction of 20mph speed limit along with traffic calming measures - £260,000

Road Safety Capital Grant. Connah's Quay Priority Routes Route Treatment Scheme – works include roundabout redesign, pedestrian crossings, tactile paving, junction improvements at several locations and the introduction of parking restrictions - £198,000
B5125 Ewloe - Broughton Route Treatment Works – provision of 20mph speed limit, pedestrian crossings, parking restrictions, signage, road markings and junction redesign - £149,5000.
