An MP has joined calls for greater awareness of brain tumours.

Mark Tami teamed up with The Brain Tumour Charity to support brain tumour awareness month.

To help raise awareness of the disease, over 30 MP’s across many political parties united in Parliament at an event hosted by the Brain Tumour Charity in March.

Mr Tami, MP for Alyn and Deeside, said: “Brain Tumour Awareness Month did a lot to raise valuable awareness of this devastating cancer.

“The Brain Tumour Charity held a successful event in Parliament that helped put the issue very much on the Government’s agenda.

“I’ll be doing everything I can to ensure that people diagnosed with this condition in Alyn and Deeside get the support they need.”

Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of children and adults under 40 in the UK and reduce life expectancy by 20 years on average.

The Brain Tumour Charity also launched a new report on the financial impact and it describes how 80 per cent of brain tumour patients have their working life affected after diagnosis.

Cameron Miller, the charity’s head of policy and public affairs, said they launched the ‘the price you pay’ report because it is vital improvements are made for patients who face financial difficulty.

He added: “We thank all MPs who attended our event and we hope to work with them to tackle this devastating disease.”
