A 78-year-old woman has died in hospital after being hit by a car as she crossed the road.

Rose O’Donnell from Motherwell was struck on Airbles Road in the North Lanarkshire town on Saturday.

The collision involving a Nissan Qashqai happened at around 11.25am.

Mrs O’Donnell was taken to Wishaw General Hospital where she died on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old man driving the car was not injured.

Police are keen to speak to a man in his 20s who came to the woman’s aid.

Sergeant Scott Sutherland said: “A number of people stopped to help Mrs O’Donnell at the time, however we would still like to speak to anyone who has not yet come forward.

“I am particularly keen to hear from a man seen on CCTV to run across the road to help Rose.

“Unfortunately he left prior to police arrival so we didn’t manage to find out what he saw. We would be grateful if he would give us a call.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 1615 of September 15.
