A COMMUNITY set out to tie up loose 'odds and ends' on a proactive litter-pick around the area.

Connah's Quay Councillor Paul Shotton led a community-based project aimed at sprucing up the town in time for summer.

Ysgol Bryn Deva's eco council pupils, led by Sarah Eccles, were keen to give something back to their environment, and aided the Golftyn councillor in collecting discarded litter, which will then be disposed of or recycled correctly.

Students at Connah's Quay High School, led by Mary Daniels, were also to be seen cleaning up, alongside volunteers from successful north-Wales eco-friendly scheme, Our Back Yard.

Ranger Mike Taylor, and Wayne Jones of Flintshire Council's Streetscene also contributed to the community event.

Cllr Shotton said: "It was a very good morning. I tried to organise this litter-pick because there has been so much negativity about the area. This is something to empower residents to take the right action in their area.

"We had a favourable response from residents as we travelled around, and it was a very successful day.

"Both Ysgol Bryn Deva and Connah's Quay High School have said they would like to do more litter-picks in future following on from the success of this one."

Cllr Shotton added that he is set on improving and cleaning up the areas around Connah's Quay and is currently looking at ways to do this.
