A COUNCILLOR took part in a dancing event to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Shotton Councillor Kelly Evans joined a group of people in an Ultra Ballroom Black Tie event at the Olympia in Liverpool and collectively, £10,889 was raised for the charity.

She said: “The atmosphere was brilliant, everybody got behind each other, even at rehearsals when something went wrong, everybody clapped and showed their support, it was really good.”

About 27 couples took part in the event on May 13 and over 400 went to watch.

Kelly, and her partner Jeanette Lewis, danced to David Bowie, As The World Falls Down, from The Labyrinth film and she said they wore the masks to match.

The Cllr added: “I was frightened to death of falling down the stairs because I don’t do heels very well so the fact I was still stood up at the very bottom was a bonus.

“I’ve lost too many people to it [cancer] and too many close people. I've got friends who have survived as well but there’s that many people in the community who have lost people, it’s a horrible disease and something has got to be done to get rid of it.

“I would definitely do something like this again. Hopefully there will be another one in October or November.”
