A BABY from Bagillt died at just three-weeks-old but the cause is still unknown, an inquest heard.

An inquest was held into the death of Zachary Thomas Sutcliffe, of Victoria Road, Bagillt, who died on October 10, 2017.

The three-week-old was found not breathing by his mother Ceri Wilkinson and was verified as dead at Glan Clwyd hospital.

The inquest, which was held by John Gittins, Coroner for North East Wales and Central, heard that Zachary lived at home with his mother and father, Gary Sutcliffe.

Zachary had his night feed at about 1am and was then placed chest down on a rubber ring on the floor along with cushions.

Paramedics confirmed they received a call at 8.25 am from Ceri, who thought her son had passed away.

A post mortem into his death at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool was opened and it was believed Zachary was in cardiac arrest at the time of passing but the coroner said he believes he would have been dead before he reached the hospital.

The post mortem results revealed a negative toxicology and failed to reveal signs of non-accidental damage, but there was no definite diagnosis.

John Gittins said it was an unexpected death of a seemingly healthy baby, but no evidence appeared to give an exact cause of death.

He recorded an open conclusion.

He said: “My condolences, I can’t imagine how difficult the process has been for you and I can’t promise it will get any better.”
