TRUCK drivers are preparing to take on an epic challenge for charity.

A group organised by 30-year-old truck driver Benjamin Furnival, who lives in Flint, will take on the three peaks challenge - involving the mountains of Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and Ben Nevis in Scotland - over a three day period starting on July 13.

The group, members of the North Wales Truck Gathering, have set themselves a £1,000 target for the challenge, which aims to support the charities 4Louis and Wales Blood Bikes.

In recent years the group has managed to raise about £16,000 for a number of good causes including the Wales Air Ambulance, Freya's Freedom, Alaw Unit at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Hope House Children’s Hospice.

Mr Furnival told the Leader: "We try and raise the bar every year so we have set ourselves a target of £1,000 but we'll be trying to raise as much as possible."

He added the group, which has been tackling Snowdon over the weekend to train for the challenge, is also seeking sponsorship from companies.

Other members on the team include Ian Williams from Ruthin, Grant Miles from Bagillt, Samantha Wilson from Bagillt, Jim Bennett from Manchester, Martin Bentley from Connah’s Quay, Becca Parry-Jones from Llandyrnog and Andre Atterbury from Porthmadog.

The group has already raised £200 via its online fundraising page.
