SCHOOLCHILDREN enjoyed learning about weddings by holding one of their own.

Following the excitement of the royal wedding over the weekend, three reception classes from Ysgol Mynydd Isa planned and held a mock ceremony of their own at Saint Cecilia's Church on Mold Road.

Emma Curtis, deputy headteacher said the ceremony, which took place on Monday, and was followed by high tea on the school's lawn for both pupils and parents.

She said: "The children had been studying weddings as part of their RE topic but it lined up nicely with the royal wedding.

"Staff contacted the reverend Martin Batchelor and he was thrilled at the idea because it would be the first wedding held at the church.

"The children helped to plan everything from the invitations to the order of service, the favours and the bunting to the high tea with parents afterwards.

"They really enjoyed it and the feedback form parents after was that they were delighted and it was a wonderful idea to create memories for both them and the children.

"We had a very good turnout from parents for the high tea as well - there must have been about 100 parents there.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to the reception staff for their hard work in preparation for the event and to parents for attending and providing food for the high tea.

"And most importantly well done to the children for their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour on the day."
