A CEREMONY has been held to unveil a special mosaic school children have worked on together with an artist.

Pupils at Victoria CP in Offa have spent the last few months working with artist Andrea Hilditch to produce the baptism themed mosaic from photographic stills of artwork they had made.

It is now on display at All Saints Church and to unveil the finished piece, a special service was held at the church, led by Father Sam Erlandson and guest preacher Rev Canon Dr Mann Jones, to bless the artwork.

The event was also attended by the Mayor of Wrexham, Councillor John Pritchard.

Artist Andrea Hilditch said she and the pupils were thrilled to see the final result of all their hard work, and hoped the mosaic would provide inspiration to students for years to come.

She said: "I was involved in the project with the church and the school for the last four months, working closely with the children on Friday's.

"Each year group built work for a collage and when we had photos taken we turned them into little tiles to incorporate into a mosaic.

"The tiles are three metres by one metre and were installed with the help of volunteers from Glyndwr University who also worked on the project."

She added: "It's all about building bridges and creating a lasting connection with the school.

"The children were fantastic to work with. They were excited, fun and engaging.

"This mosaic is going to last the test of time and the celebration event gave the children the chance to bless the artwork.

"The Mayor of Wrexham (Councillor John Pritchard) was there as well and the school choir were singing too.

"I think it shows the children they can do anything working together and raises their aspirations. I'd like to thank Father Sam Erlandson and headteacher Debbie Eccles for all their support."
