WORK to tear down a part of Deeside's history could begin this summer, a council chief has said.

The Leader reported recently that A planning application for prior notification of demolition for John Summers High School In Queensferry was received by Flintshire Council’s planning department.

Planning officers have decided that prior approval for the plan is not required and a possible period of time for demolition has now been outlined by the authority.

Claire Homard, interim chief officer for education and youth, has confirmed to the Leader that the demolition of the school is likely to take place between July and November this year.

Queensferry ward cllr David Wisinger, a former governor at the school, told the Leader previously that the day the school is torn down will be ' a sad day for the community'.

He added: “We campaigned to save it on a number of occasions and we succeeded twice. We were told that unless pupil numbers increased the school would have to close - unfortunately they didn’t..

"It was very sad for the area when the school closed and people were not happy about it.

"It is a part of the history of Deeside and a lot of children have gone on from that school to have very good jobs."
