STUDENTS were determined to make the show go on at their spring concert.

The event, at Castell Alun High School on Thursday, saw pupils from different years take to the stage to give a variety of soloist, duet and ensemble performances.

And despite some last minute illnesses, audience members were very supportive as other student musicians stepped in at the last minute, a school spokesman said.

Graham Hughes, head teacher, said: "What a wonderful evening. The skills these students have are simply mind-blowing.

"We are indebted to our music team, including our peripatetic staff, all parents who support us unceasingly, governors and of course our fantastic students. This was a great way to round off this term."

Castell Alun, which regularly puts on musicals and concerts, was recently visited by the Estyn Welsh Inspectorate and received one of the top reports yet awarded on the latest inspection framework.
