A WOMAN has pleaded guilty to stealing from a town supermarket with 'trolley dash' style thefts.

Estelle Marie Louise Prendeville, 52, of First Avenue, Gwersyllt, pleaded guilty to three charges of theft when she appeared at Wrexham Magistrates Court.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, said the offences took place at the town's Morrisons store on Ruthin Road, on January 28, and February 2 and 9.

He said: "They were three trolley dash type offences.

"On two occasions she managed to get away with the goods but on the third occasion she was detained and tested positive for cocaine and opiates."

Melissa Griffiths, defending, said Prendeville was a mother of four who suffers from a number of health conditions.

She said: "She has referred herself to The Elms and sees a drug and alcohol counsellor.

"She was short of money when these thefts took place but she also suffers from anxiety. It had not necessarily been her attention to steal these items.

"It was unsophisticated, she returned to the same store three times, filled up the trolley and left without paying."

District judge Gwyn Jones gave Prendeville a 12 week community order, making her subject to an electronically monitored curfew from 6pm to 7am for that time.

She will also pay £85 costs, an £85 victim surcharge and £493 compensation to Morrisons.
