Shoppers were encouraged to take part in the Fairtrade Fortnight celebrations as businesses teamed up to support the initiative.

The Mold Fairtrade group joined Cittaslow Mold with a stall on Daniel Owen Square and passers-by were invited to take a newsletter with information about banana production.

Children were also given Fairtrade bananas, which had been donated by Mold Co-op.

Liz Rose, member Pioneer for Mold Co-op, was on hand to answer any questions about the business’s long-term investment in supporting Fairtrade producers.

She said: “The aim of Member Pioneers is to work within the local community, identify pressing issues and use the Co-op’s reach and assets to make positive changes”.

The Fairtrade Fortnight is a nationwide initiative and aims to highlight where produce comes from and at what cost to producers.

Bananas are grown by millions of small-scale farmers and plantation workers in tropical regions, who rely on the fruit

Fairtrade works with 1.5 million farmers and workers and UK shoppers are encouraged to buy Fairtrade items and as a result, are paying a fair price to the producers.
