A WREXHAM woman has been left traumatised after yobs put a lit firework through the letterbox at her home.

Helen Williams, of West Circle, said her life has become a nightmare following the ordeal, which has left her afraid to both go out and also to stay at home.

“I could have been killed, seriously injured or the house could have been burnt down. I can hardly believe anyone would actually do something as stupid and as dangerous as this,” she said.

The explosion took place when Miss Williams was at home and asleep in bed on October 23.

“All of a sudden I heard a massive bang coming from the front room. At first I thought that a fire had broken out, I was so frightened.

“I went to have a look and found that someone had put a lit rocket through the letterbox. Fortunately it was extinguished by the time I got there.”

Miss Williams said the incident happened at around 9pm and someone could easily have been in the room when the firework was pushed into the house.

“If anyone had been there at such a close distance when the explosion took place they could have been very badly hurt or even killed. And if flames from the rocket had spread a fire could have started.”

Miss Williams has a pet cat called Scruffs who was in the room when the explosion took place.

“She completely disappeared and I didn’t see her again until the next day. I think that she must have gone and hid somewhere in the house, possibly the wardrobe. It has really affected her badly, Scruffs is very upset.”

A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed the incident had been reported and officers were investigating.

Gareth Griffiths, senior fire safety manager for North Wales Fire Service, said the period around bonfire time can lead to an increase in anxiety for many members of society and stressed the importance of firework safety.

Seems the leader hates the truth as well, (post removed) wonder if they have shares in the fireworks industry. so much for being a paper for the people... pah!!!

Fireworks have been on sale at the usual outlets since the end of September. No one seems to abide to the law either. Every Friday/Saturday night when the pubs close there's always people letting them off all year round. http://www.fireworks.co.uk/buy/law.html
