HUNDREDS of pounds have so far been raised to help fly the bodies of a tragic schoolboy and his mother home to Poland.
The Flint community rallied round to raise money for the Monika and Patryk Wasko Fund, set up by Polish friends to pay for a burial in their home country.
Mrs Wasko was found dead at the family home in Cae Hir in the early hours of July 11.
Patryk, 11, died four days later at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.
Post-mortem examinations revealed both had died of stab wounds.
More than £200 was raised at the Sainsbury’s store in Flint over the weekend when customers dropped spare change into collection buckets.
The event was arranged by St Mary’s RC Primary School Parent-Teacher Association. Patryk was a pupil at the school.
Sainsbury’s HR clerk Joanne Powell told the Leader: “Everyone was really happy to give money to support the fund. The community was in shock when this happened. We were more than happy to do this for the family.”
Money raised will be presented to Monika’s husband Rafal 33, and son Adrian in the coming weeks.
Anyone who would like to donate to the fund should go to their local TSB branch and make a payment to TSB sort code 77-48-05 and account number 27994668.
Alternatively make a cheque payable to Flint Catholic Church or drop off your donation at the Polski Sklep convenience store on Holywell Road.
Krystian Rozek, 27, has been charged with the murders of Monica and Patryk Wasko and the attempted murder of Rafal Wasko.
Rozek has been remanded in custody until September 9.
