Some of the memorabilia to be sold on Monday

A TREASURE trove of Wrexham’s history is to be auctioned off in the town.

The box of Wrexham-related ephemera, which includes a remarkable ‘board of education’ coal mining exam certificate from 1914, will go under the hammer at Wingetts saleroom on Monday.

Other items in the lot are a number of old photographs, including one of workers at William Thomas and Sons Timber Importers dated August 1945 and another of workers taken by Hiscock photographers of Queensferry.

There are old newspaper clippings, magazines and books relating to the Royal Welch Fusiliers and other aspects of local history.

Also included is a framed photograph of the Hand Inn, Wrexham, which stood in front of Black Chamber street, so called because it was the location of a town jail (neither the street, inn or jail are there today).

Auctioneer Dyfed Griffiths said: “Most of it has obviously been hoarded away in an attic somewhere so it is the first time it has become available.

“There’s some nice bits and bobs, it should make £50, I’d like to see it go for more but it’s here to be sold – without reserve.”

The lot will be sold at Wingetts General and Collectable auction on Monday at the Holt Street saleroom, from 10.30am.
