SLIDESHOW: Liberation of Hope 2010 parade

CROWDS lined the streets of Caergwrle and Hope as the neighbouring villages celebrated an ancient tradition.

The annual Liberation of Hope parade set off from Hope Church Hall yesterday, with a dusting of snow not enough to put off visitors.

The event is held to commemorate Owain Glyndwr’s raising of the village in 1403 as part of his campaign against the rule of Henry IV.

Marchers dressed in ceremonial and period dress made their way to Caergwrle Castle and back again, before lectures and entertainment on a Welsh theme back in Hope itself.

Big thanks to the Leader for being there to capture the moment! It was a fantastic day with a great procession and superb entertainment on a day the snow tried to conspire against us. Thanks to everyone who turned up, joined in, performed, carried banners, spoke, marshaled the traffic, the WI for the refreshments and Dave and Danny for organising. The pics in the slideshow are brilliant and i have to say, this will go down as probably my most memorable so far. Glyndwr would be proud!

Oh dear, the only reason people celebrate glyndwr is because he fought the 'opressive' english. 21st century closet racists with large chips on their shoulders.

oh dear me - for god sake mr "GBoycott" get a life , if you had the will to get up from behind the pc and come to see what was what you would have seen that a number of those there WERE ENGLISH and proud to support Welsh historical eventsi think your perfectly balanced - a chip on both shoulders!

Why is it when the Welsh celebrate their history it's sneered at by small minded bigots? Well done to everyone involved in this event. Keep up the good work!

I was unable to attend this event unfortunately so a big thanks to the Leader for all the great photos. I did however stumble upon the event last year, where I was overwhelmed by the community spirit, and the welcome to everyone from all walks of life. I particularly thought it was an amazing way to learn about our local history.

Seren (what a typical example of plaid, i am welsh fyi), why not celebrate something much more relevant and worthwhile, like the battle of Agincourt. It was a mixture of welsh and english (especially welsh) archers who won an amazing victory against all odds. Glyndwr was crusading around trying to save us from civilisation and christianity.
