A FLINTSHIRE mum has launched a fundraising mission in a bid to raise money for the hospital caring for her disabled son.
Ceri Evans, of Ryland Street, Shotton, is trying to raise funds for Alder Hey Hospital where her 10-year-old son Callum is treated for a rare heart condition.
Callum suffers from hypoplastic left heart syndrome which means one side of his heart is severely underdeveloped.
Ceri, 27, first found out about her son’s condition at her 20-week scan.
She told the Leader: “I was only 16 at the time so it was quite a big thing for me to take in.
“It didn’t sink in really at first, but now it’s just part of everyday life and we just have to live every day as it comes, but Callum is such a happy, lovely little boy and he loves life.”
Callum, who goes to Ysgol Pen Coch in Flint, has already undergone three major operations to try to make the right side of his heart stronger.
“He was first operated on when he was just 11 days old, then again at nine months and again when he was five.
Ceri added: “Fortunately he is quite stable at the moment, but they have said in his teenage years they will have to do a heart transplant.”
The brave mum, who has two other children Sion, seven, and Ellie, 16 months, has organised a charity fair in aid of the Liverpool children’s hospital.
“The staff at Alder Hey have been brilliant and now I want to give something back,” she said.
The event is on Saturday at Connah’s Quay Community Centre, Tuscan Way.
Visitors can look forward to a variety of stalls as well as a raffle. Ceri is now on the lookout for businesses to donate draw prizes. If you can help call 01244 814519.
