A MAN miraculously walked away from a 100mph horror crash.
Gerald Davison, from Mold, was travelling along the A5118 in Padeswood at about 8.40am yesterday when his silver Toyota was hit by an oncoming vehicle which had lost control on a patch of black ice.
The car smashed into the side of Mr Davison’s car, sending the vehicle hurtling into a nearby ditch where it landed upside down trapping him inside.
The 45-year-old, who was on his way to work at Chester Business Park at the time, said he was lucky to be alive.
He told the Leader: “As I came around the corner I could see a car coming down the hill towards me and it was already fishtailing.
“I pulled as far over to the left as possible, but the front of the car collided with my driver’s door. It spun me round and my car ended up in a ditch.”
Both vehicles were travelling at about 50mph, making a combined speed of 100mph at the point of impact.
“I was very lucky, if it had hit me head on then I wouldn’t be having this conversation now. I would definitely say it’s one of my nine live’s gone,” he added.
Mr Davison, a volunteer with North East Wales Search and Rescue (NEWSAR), was trapped in his car for 15 minutes until the fire service cut him free.
He said: “Thanks to my training with NEWSAR I tried to remain calm and gave myself a bit of a first aid test to check I had no broken bones. Staying calm is the best line to take in life and my training certainly helped me.”
He was taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester Hospital, but was later released suffering from just cuts and bruises.
