ANDY MANGAN believes he should have marked his Wrexham debut with a goal.
New signing Mangan played 67 minutes of Saturday’s win against AFC Wimbledon and the 23-year-old, who struck 30 times in all competitions last season for Forest Green Rovers, came close on a couple of occasions to finding the net.
But Mangan is convinced he will score goals for Wrexham: “I didn’t think I would last that long to be honest, a good 50 or 60 minutes maybe,” he said.
“But I felt alright. I probably did need to come off, a good decision by the manager, and hopefully I will go longer tomorrow night.
“We have 23 games left and I want to play all 23.
“I would like 25 goals! I have been doing well in training, scoring goals. Today when I cut inside the full-back I should probably have scored.
“Some of my runs, the ball was nearly there. The lads are going to take time trying to find me, I am obviously a different player to what they have had before but I believe I will score goals for Wrexham.”
Mangan also supplied a cross for Gareth Taylor whose second half close range header was brilliantly saved by Dons keeper Seb Brown.
“I try and get assists as well. I got 12 last year and 30 goals as well,” he added. “It wasn’t a bad cross and it was a great save from the keeper, a good header from Gareth.
“One nil could have been 2-0, and I think we should probably have beaten them by a few more. I should have scored maybe two, but that will come with fitness."
Mangan was delighted Wrexham recorded a victory on his debut and is looking to build on that result when the Reds travel to Rushden and Diamonds tomorrow night.
“It was never in doubt that I made the right choice,” added Mangan. “The fans were great, and Dean Saunders is a massive name in football.
“We will take this win and all the confidence into the next game and hopefully beat Rushden.
“I was excited and nervous before the game, but now I have got the first one out of the way, I am excited for the next one.
“It was a great result from the lads, a good performance. We were under the cosh a bit at the end but that happens at every level.”
