A POST Office in Flintshire which closed suddenly two months ago reopens for business today.
Residents in Saltney Ferry were shocked when the Post Office in Mainwaring Drive closed in the last week of October for “contractual and operational” reasons.
But today Sue Hodgins, Post Office Ltd field change adviser, said: “I am really happy that we have been able to secure the services of Greame Adshead from our Flint branch to run the branch on an interim basis.
“Graeme is a very experienced sub-postmaster who will do a great job while we continue our search for a long term solution.
“I would like to apologise to our customers in Saltney Ferry area for any inconvenience the temporary closure may have caused them over the past few weeks.
“I hope they will now support Graeme in his effort to restore this valuable service.”
Saltney councillor Klaus Armstrong-Braun said elderly residents had been hit hard by the temporary closure.
“We fought hard to keep this post office open when the closures were going round and I was shocked to hear that it had closed,” he said.
“It’s very important because we have a lot of elderly people living in the area who need to use it.
“The closure meant people had to go to the Chester Road post office, which is about a mile away, and elderly people could not get there without having to get a taxi or a bus.”
At the time of the closure a spokesman from Post Office Ltd said: “We apologise to customers that for contractual and operational reasons we temporarily closed Saltney Ferry Post Office.
“Some 98 per cent of our network of branches in Wales operate on a contractual basis between Post Office Ltd and sub-postmasters.”
The post office’s opening hours will be 9am to 5.30pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, with an hour for lunch from 1pm; 9am to 1pm on Wednesdays and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.
