WREXHAM FC have made a second bid for an un-named striker after having a first offer rejected.
Having seen his side only score 21 goals in 22 Blue Square Premier matches this season, Wrexham FC boss Dean Saunders is desperate to bolster his attack now that the January transfer window has opened.
Linked with Forest Green Rovers frontman Andrew Mangan, who has completed a five month ban imposed by the FA in July for breaching betting rules, Saunders would not reveal the player’s identity but admits to having a number of potential targets.
A first bid for the striker has been turned down by his club but Saunders is eager to land his man and hopes a new offer will be accepted: “The club has come back to us and turned it down,” said Saunders today. “So I have gone back with a different proposal and I am keeping my fingers crossed.
“It is a player I admire and hopefully we get him.
“It would be nice to get a player out of a club that someone wants. That is what I want to do, get players in that their club don’t want to let go.
“But I am looking at other avenues. I have a list of players, it is being able to afford them.”
Saunders is also eager to strengthen his squad in other positions this month and accepts some players he has brought in might have to leave in order for him to bring in more fresh faces: “I am trying to build a team and I am learning as I go along,” he said. “I am learning about the players all the time. Some settle in and do well, others take time to find their feet.
“Then you have to adjust things again until you get the team on the pitch you are happy with, and the squad you are happy with.
“You have to keep improving all the time, and I hope to receive calls for some of our players.”
Currently occupying 17th place in the table, Wrexham – who have played less matches than any other team in the division – have five games in hand on some clubs.
And they face a gruelling schedule this month with the Wimbledon clash the first of seven matches due to take place in January.
February is also a hectic month with six games in the fixture list so far, while the home and away matches with Altrincham – both postponed over the festive period – have yet to be given a new date.
