DETERMINED Paul Murphy will hope for glory when he competes in the regional championship of a famous board game this weekend.
Paul, who runs the TLC nursing agency in Penybryn, will take part in the South Wales Monopoly Championships in Cardiff on Sunday.
There are a total of eight top players taking part, but Paul is the only one from the north and he is definitely aiming to achieve success.
“It would be nice if we could get a victory for Wrexham. At the moment our football team isn’t doing so well, whereas Swansea and Cardiff are thriving.
“I’ll be trying to get the boot on the other foot in terms of Monopoly.”
Paul, 46, is well equipped to push for victory. He has been a member of Mensa for 20 years.
He is experienced in playing Monopoly and did well when he competed in the regional national competition which was held in Blackpool, just missing out on qualifying for the finals by the narrowest of margins.
Paul says typically he will try to buy as many properties on the board as he can early on and build a strong bridge-head in the game.
“It is a big help if you get a good start. Really it is a question of developing your strategy from that point onwards, depending on what the circumstances are.”
The South Wales Monopoly Championships will be hosted at Toys ‘n’ Things in Roath Park.
The winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to see the real London Monopoly sites and £200 in spending money.
