Anger as Eagles Meadow parking rate rises 100 per cent

THE manager of a car park company has defended the decision to put up parking charges at Wrexham’s Eagles Meadow shopping complex.

After a holding promotional rate of just £1 for two hours for the first year of its opening, operating company Vinci Parks has now started to charge £2 for the same period of time.

A number of people have contacted the Leader to express their dissatisfaction at the move.

Victoria Williams, regional manager for Vinci Parks, admitted that a number of people had complained directly to her about the increase.

She said: “After having the promotional rate for the past 12 months, we have just put up the charge.

“We are now having to pay commercial rates so we must charge a commercial tariff.

“I know that there are people who are not happy about this because a number have complained directly to me about it.

"There is a dilemma here as we are selling permits at £1.50 a day to people parking on a regular basis.

“This is part of an initiative for the benefit of people who work in the town centre and it also alleviates pressure on other car parks.”

She added: “We need to maximise our revenue to get as many people as possible parking at Eagles Meadow.

“Although I appreciate the point of view of people, we are a commercial organisation and we need to charge a commercial rate.”

How is that going to encourage people to shop there? I go to Salford Quays a lot to shop and there you have your parking ticket validated at the till when you purchase something over £5 and get free parking. Surely something like that would be better?

Actually, it doesnt even have to be £5 - " We have over 1200 spaces available for shoppers and visitors in our safe and secure multi storey car park. Parking is FREE for all shoppers for the first four hours of your stay if you make a purchase – simply present your car park ticket in any of our shops when you make a purchase and staff will gladly validate it for you" http://www.lowryoutletmall.com/default.asp?f=/customerservice/

I noticed this last week, I have been an avid supporter of our new Eagles Meadow and thought the previous tariff was good value, I would use it at least 3 times a week - not any more, this is a ridiculous cost, I'm off back to Chester now.

It makes you wonder if the price increase is due the Christmas run-in. Pure greed! My parents say they will be shopping elsewhere on principle.

The management of Eagles meadow should be ashamed for letting this happen, They seem to think that resession or not they will make a profit... and shops will close because customers will refuse to shop there.... they have now shown there true colours.
