TRIBUTES have been paid by Wrexham FC to George McGowan, a youth coach described by club secretary Geraint Parry as “one of the nicest men you could hope to meet”, who has died aged 65.

Mr McGowan played professionally for a number of clubs, building up a wealth of knowledge and experience in football which he relished passing on to budding young players.

“George played a big part in Wrexham’s success in winning the Youth Alliance League.

He had the respect of everyone at the club.

“He was one of the nicest men you could hope to meet, and a true gentleman.

"Away from football his other great sporting passion was golf,” said Mr Parry.
