People travelling from across UK to attend far-right demonstration in Wrexham

ACCORDING to one its organisers, Saturday's demonstration by far-right group the Welsh Defence League in Wrexham is likely to attract supporters from across the UK.

League spokesman Mickey Smith said groups of them would start arriving from Cardiff, Luton, the West Midlands and Bolton around mid-morning before holding a "static demonstration" at an undisclosed location in the town centre about noon.

He said: "At the demonstration the lads will stand in a circle and there will be speeches before we disperse after about 20 minutes.

"We are not going out for trouble but when we get attacked we will defend ourselves."

From 10am-4pm an anti-fascist group called Wrexham Communities Festival will hold a gathering in Queens Square featuring a programme of music, arts and food designed to show the area’s multi-cultural strengths.

North Wales Police is expected to have a heavy presence on the streets to ensure the day goes off peacefully.

If we are attacked we will defend ourselves.... watch out for Nanny Nora and her gang of reprobate friends.. Mickey.... they're deadly with those umbrella's..... take the eye out of your head and poke you in the most inappropiate places

No encouragement needed whatsoever to do the shopping at Broughton Retail Park on Saturday. All we need now is Danny Dire to make a guest appearance and it could be pwoper nawty.

Can someone explain why they have chosen Wrexham for this protest instead of a bigger city? Sorry for being thick but I've never heard of these groups before.

  4. Posted by: a cahill at 12:36 on 20 November 2009 Report

Karen.....the only one i have heard of is TCC which ia charity set up to promote community involvement and cohesion..... you can contact thenm on the following e-mail address ..... bill@tcc-wales.org.uk for more information

  5. Posted by: EveningReader at 14:05 on 20 November 2009 Report

Karen they are choosing towns and cities to protest against the Islamification of the UK. Things like the Nativity play being scrapped in schools because it might offend Muslims, the tale of the 3 little Pigs being banned in case it offends Muslims etc

  6. Posted by: Leanne at 14:20 on 20 November 2009 Report

The real reason they have chosen wrexham Karen is because there have been proposals to build a mosque on the outskirts of wrexham. The march just happens to come after the BNP came to wrexham to test the water here. coincidence i think not!!

Should make for some interesting photos, Karen.

The EDL are basically a bunch of ex football hooligans who wear balaclavas whilst performing nazi salutes, chanting adolf hitler and intimidating people. They masquerade as fighting against Muslim extremism but 99% of the population of the UK are against that too, including Muslims! It’s a smokescreen for the real hate-mongering thay carry out.

  9. Posted by: karen at 15:49 on 20 November 2009 Report

Thanks for the explanation everyone :) Should be an interesting day and Roland I am tempted to take my camera to town, must admit! :)

  10. Posted by: greenflyer at 17:48 on 20 November 2009 Report

the edl are not connected to the bnp this is not true and anybody from the bnp that attends anything of the edl is expelled and as for the communities festival they are supported by searchlight who we should all be more afraid of than "the so-called racists" as they have much more extreme views

  11. Posted by: Desssy at 19:44 on 20 November 2009 Report

Being a proud welshman until the day I die & beyond, it makes my skin crawl to think that a collection of mindless cretins can be allowed to gather & spread their hatred. live & let live!

  12. Posted by: greenflyer at 21:08 on 20 November 2009 Report

yes and im not very happy about demonstrations being held in wrexham either

  13. Posted by: a cahill at 23:02 on 20 November 2009 Report

I'm quite suprised that Gordon..David.. and Nick haven't done a cross party thingy and banned tha fat bloke Santa...lets look at the evidence.... he encourages binge drinking.. unheathy eating and causes an rise in the work of A&E depts.. mas murder of Turkeys and Pigs and a rise in spending that could help towards wiping out the deficit... an all round bad influence... that one !!

  14. Posted by: Yachydda at 00:55 on 21 November 2009 Report

With a bit of luck it wont come to anything...but it wont stop peoples views against Islamic extremists...with news that the government let 20,000 of them in its not surprising...and thats just the legal ones.

  15. Posted by: Mewshound at 08:13 on 21 November 2009 Report

Communties Festival was arranged after the EDL announced they are in Wrexham, why did they CF have to choose the same day, their aim is just to antagonise EDL. But they think by involing children and communities they will be viewed in a better light. The CF would not have been organised if EDL were not in Wrexham!

  16. Posted by: Pimp wiv a limp at 08:48 on 21 November 2009 Report

Basically why should we as a nation have to change I'm not a football hooligan I'm a family man and if my daughter came home saying there is no nativity play because of muslims there will be outrage we had them before they even knew they could sneak into our country and reap the rewards of our shoddy benefits system. Why should we change???

  17. Posted by: craig1901 at 10:16 on 21 November 2009 Report

sorry for being thick but what is going on at wrexham today?

  18. Posted by: craig1901 at 10:23 on 21 November 2009 Report

found out now does anybody know why they choose wrexham?

  19. Posted by: a cahill at 10:27 on 21 November 2009 Report

This is a good example of the extremes meeting..... I neither want nor support the lunatic fringe of Islam or Christianity taking hold in our Communities. It beggars belief that Politicians are now jumping on the bandwagon when they played political games which have led to so many getting into Britain through the back door with the obvious stress on community cohesion

  20. Posted by: Yachydda at 12:17 on 21 November 2009 Report

According to Government it is not known how many illegal imigrants are here but its estimated at above 2 Million...it is also not known how many legal imigrants are here, but this is estimated at 25% more than official figures. it is fact that he government let in over 200 taleban families were let into the UK, none have been deported.

  21. Posted by: Yachydda at 12:30 on 21 November 2009 Report

According to new EU laws an imigrant cannot be guilty of agrivated racism because of his/her underpriveliged status, and or religious belifes and customs. The people of this country should be proud that they have condoned anti-racism, but the price they will pay is posibly there own overall liberty.

  22. Posted by: karen at 15:12 on 21 November 2009 Report

I have been photographing it for the past few hours and all I saw was lots of chanting, some jostling and banner waving. There was some opposition present that also made their voices heard. They never made it to Queens Square as far as I know, just to Wetherspoons.

  23. Posted by: karen at 15:39 on 21 November 2009 Report

    Eliu yale pub, not wetherspoons!

Back in the seventies on the anti natzi rallies the police would protect the National Front and bash hell out of us lefties. Today in Wrexham the police were bashing the righties and protecting the lefties...ironic really. Nothing is clear the left have become right and the right left. The BNP want to smash the banks and nationalise supermarkets, but the left of centre parties(like Plaid and Lib Dems) want to embrace business and capitalism. The ironies of history.

Britts are the 1st to cross the world for cheep beer turning lovely resorts into brits on the p155 paradise, why? coz Brits worship beer!! Who complains then???? If the English can work live/work in Wales, Why can't anyone else?? Just a bunch of kids not wanting to share their toys! Can i just ask apart from all the politics how did our council in all its wisdom allow permision for these two protests to take place on the same day. The £10 they are now going to charge people for not putting their bins out early can now be used to pay for the extra policing it will cost us all. Makes you wonder what the hell we pay are council tax for.

There are going to be SERIOUS questions asked next week as to why wrexham council allowed the EDL and the WCAR to have similtaneous events, resulting in about £200,000 worth of police costs. I want to know the names of the councillors involved and am going to demand their suspension from the council until a major investigation can be held into this total cockup that has cost the tax-payers an absolute fortune. Wrexham council are guilty of gross negligence.

  30. Posted by: taffie5 at 20:58 on 21 November 2009 Report

well, the fact that they only made it as far as the pub says it all really!!!

  31. Posted by: tommy at 21:01 on 21 November 2009 Report

With all the cash forked out on police wrexham could have had a proper multi-cultural event (glyndwr uni would have been a good site) bands and speakers from all over the world .

  32. Posted by: ianapharri at 21:29 on 21 November 2009 Report

There was one protest from a bunch of drunken Bolton Wanderers football hooligans, who stayed in a pub, got drunk and shouted racist abuse. Then, there was a multi-cultural festival made up of local people, who ingored the drunken thugs. The police numbers were down to police planning and not anything else.

  33. Posted by: ray77 at 22:59 on 21 November 2009 Report

Funny that ian, i counted 90 or so people protesting. All over wales and england, tho bolton made up about 40 or so. I'd love to hear that racist chants, such as no surrender to the taliban, or even rule britannia. Well done to the wxm support

  34. Posted by: greenflyer at 23:07 on 21 November 2009 Report

according to the video clips it seems the so called anti facists were hurling the most abuse so who were the real trouble makers here ??? not the so called racists

  35. Posted by: a cahill at 23:09 on 21 November 2009 Report

Not a lot happened then !!..... have to agree with tommy..... everything has become blurred.... I could axtually vote Tory and not see any difference from the last 12yrs... we have got to that place where spin and misleading the public seems to be the norm.. that place where truth has become irrelevant and hidden from the Citizens

  36. Posted by: EveningReader at 00:05 on 22 November 2009 Report

Great pictures Karen. Seen a few Youtube's as well. There is no justification for Wrexham to play Chester in the future at a silly time on a Sunday in the future now after this being allowed on a Saturday.

  37. Posted by: karen at 00:15 on 22 November 2009 Report

Thanks , eveningreader :) Somebody said that there were more police for the events today than there is normally for a wrexham v chester derby! They said 650 police, no idea if this is fact or not though.

  38. Posted by: Yachydda at 11:47 on 22 November 2009 Report

Apart from minor scuffles I think wer'e all glad it didn't amount to much... and the police need to be congratulated for keeping good order...excellent pics by the way Karen

Where in the manifesto's of the party's likely to rule is there mention of sharia law..... if you want to start a national debate on anything then it is well to be open and honest and steer clear of scare mongering... it seems that the people of Wrexham aren't interested in either view with the result that Wdl had very few supporters from the Town

  44. Posted by: a cahill at 18:13 on 22 November 2009 Report

Apart from the 40 or so Bolton supporters there seems to be little appetite for this kind of protest.... can you blame people for that... at a time when they are under pressure because of the ecoomic situation it would be far better if our Cllrs AMs and MPs got the finger out and started listening to them... if you really want to effect change stand against them and use the democratic process to further your aims

  46. Posted by: Yachydda at 02:25 on 23 November 2009 Report

Just as a matter of fact with respect to both sides... there are currently 85 sharia courts in the UK with plans by the Labour government and the EU to extend that number and the powers that go with them, they are supposed to deal only with Muslim divorces, but it is known that they deal in ther things as well.

  47. Posted by: a cahill at 07:31 on 23 November 2009 Report

Yachydda... more info if you can... please... I'm aware of the divorce courts but would like to know what other things they deal with...... as I have already said that truth seems to be at a premium and people are only given info trough press release and only when it is favourable to whatever political view suits the party at a specific time

  48. Posted by: cymro at 08:56 on 23 November 2009 Report

As the gent said 85 sharria courts.the plain truth is they want to fully implement sharia ..this include family law, finance, criminal law etc..why have a law for one part of our population.we already have a law system in place.all very highly qualified .barristers.lawyers and a system of fully qualified socialworkers.probation officers..full rehabilitation service to check on those freed early etc..we would have to foot the bill for I presume a mirrored service..what then sharia police.

  49. Posted by: Roland Cleth at 09:05 on 23 November 2009 Report

Obviously football hooligans and students don't have much to do on Saturday afternoons.

  50. Posted by: cymro at 09:15 on 23 November 2009 Report

Just to answer a cahill about how this went unchecked and not on the local mps manifesto..a clause in a bill enacted in parliament a couple of years ago enabled this to happen ,like most things it is never told to the public..maybe wrexhams eminant mp can answer .will he use right wing to describe yes will he use racist against us yes.we are not how they describe.they do not want a debate..they never gave the public a choice on it.fate acomplay

  51. Posted by: cymro at 09:44 on 23 November 2009 Report

Any concrete evidence that WDL is how you describe us as..I arrived in town.followed at distance by two police, went to a meeting point for breakfast, the police came in over to us asked where from ..all of us welsh by the way..we will be monitoring you and do not course trouble.from the outset the police where implying we are out for trouble..that leaves a mindset even in the most law abiding.you think we cannot have opinions ,do not insult us,very able in debate at all levels ..

  52. Posted by: tommy at 11:21 on 23 November 2009 Report

Cymro If you are a true welsh man/women what where you doing singing "god save the queen" also making daft chants like "give us back our country". It may have escaped your notice but 97% of the land in the UK is owned by just under 3% of the population,so unless you are one of the lucky 3%,you haven't really got a country. It is this latter inequality that you would be better addressing youself to. Tommy

  53. Posted by: ken75 at 11:27 on 23 November 2009 Report

Er Tommy, i think you will find God save the Queen is the national anthem of the United Kingdom

  54. Posted by: tommy at 12:00 on 23 November 2009 Report

Hi Ken Wrong!! The Welsh have their own anthem.Hen Wlad fy Nhadau and as Cymro represents the Welsh Defence League I thought it would be more appropriate to sing the welsh national anthem. :) :) tom

a cahill :under Sharia laws in the uk, courts want to deal with arranged marriages(and arranging them)crimes against muslims by others are to be dealt with under Sharia law(without intervention by uk courts) at the moment the sharia courts break the law with dealing with crime commited by Muslims. EU laws are stronger than uk laws.. including crimes of violence.

  56. Posted by: Yachydda at 12:38 on 23 November 2009 Report

Under sharia laws sharia courts do not have to give any information to uk authorities, is seperate from uk law and European union laws. Sharia laws will allow sharia courts to imprison non muslims for offences against Islam, without intervention from UK or EU authorities...and without a fair trial... no jury.

  57. Posted by: a cahill at 13:21 on 23 November 2009 Report

Yachydda.... thanks for the info.... its a non starter simply because of the European court ,human rights legistlation, and the fact that we have a system of law already in place that has stood for centuries.... I can't see the British public allowing it

  58. Posted by: Yachydda at 14:54 on 23 November 2009 Report

Iwonder how the muslim community feel about this... given that many of them have fled their Country because of oppression under the same law.... if politicians agree to it then they must realise the danger this kind of dual law holds

  60. Posted by: a cahill at 15:37 on 23 November 2009 Report

Much has been said by the main parties on community cohesion and intergration, if sharia law applies to certain sections and British law to others ..... then there is little chance of bringing communities together

  61. Posted by: karen at 16:05 on 23 November 2009 Report

I don't see a problem with having a mosque in Wrexham. Muslims should have a place to worship in the town, other than the room at Glyndwr. However, I do have a problem with muslim extremism and the extremism present in Wrexham on Saturday from the EDL group.

  62. Posted by: Yachydda at 16:53 on 23 November 2009 Report

The problem with Islamic Extremists is that they use Mosques recruit others... and that is not the fault of muslims as a whole, but the fault of our government and that of the EU, our government for deliberatly letting in 20,000 Talebans without checks, and the EU for not allowing us to deport them.... the government then paid these Taleban so that they would vote for it in coming elections... its still happening.

  63. Posted by: Yachydda at 17:01 on 23 November 2009 Report

I see Muslims as I see everyone... they are human.. like me... I see Illegal imigrants as a drain on resources, and a problem for all imigrants not just us. I see the need sometimes for us to take in Imigrants... but when the floodgates are opened in the way they have been, then it puts everything we value as a nation at risk.... regardless of where they are from.... it also lets in the unknown terrorist.

  64. Posted by: tommy at 17:14 on 23 November 2009 Report

Worship!!! The world will not progress till all gods are dead, and we do away with the heirarchial structures of leadership. Power and wealth need to be distributed amogst the people and we need to regain our identity and free ourselves from the yolk of elitism that pervades modern societies. 1% of the money spent to bail out the banks would have got rid of world hunger(unicef) !That would have been a good start!

  65. Posted by: a cahill at 20:16 on 23 November 2009 Report

The problem with the major world religions is that all of the documents that they base their beliefs are open to interpetation.... Jews have the Torah....Muslims the Koran and Christians the Bible.... with the result there are many factions within each.... leaving them open to dogmatism, sectarianism and extremism

  66. Posted by: Yachydda at 21:09 on 23 November 2009 Report

So the question I now ask is : If everyone is against Islamic extremists (except the extremist) what the hell was all that about on Saturday... just another reason for a bit of "AGRO"?.. and the ant-facists were realy supporting islamic extremists by being against the ani extremist loby... whos kidding who here... certainly not the likes of facist organisations such as "Searchlight " thats for sure.

  67. Posted by: a cahill at 21:41 on 23 November 2009 Report

From earlier comments......the left's gone right... the right pretends to be left..... football supporters are now concerned citizens..... extremist are in competition to out -extreme each other... everything is blurred and anything goes if you're a politician... oh for the good old days when black was black and white was white
