Campaign launched to save Wrexham playing field

A CAMPAIGN is under way to protect a Wrexham playing field from future redevelopment.

Protesters want land known as the Spider Park on Rhosnesni Lane to be awarded village green status.

Playing field campaigner Lynne Hayes, together with The Acton and Maesydre Residents and Tenants Association are promoting the move.

Lynne says village green status can be awarded where local people are able to prove they have used the field for leisure and recreational purposes as a right for over 20 years.

If the campaign is successful the field would be protected from any non-recreational development.

Lynne said: “The Spider Park is situated in the community of Acton which has a deficit of playing fields.

“This is a community of more than 13,000 people.

“There have been a couple of attempts during the past few years to build on the park and we feel that there is an urgent need to protect it

“We are hoping that Wrexham Council will consider all the evidence and support the application.”
