NORTH Wales has been put on flood alert after weather chiefs released a heavy rainfall warning today.
Environment Agency Wales and the Met Office is urging people to be aware of possible flooding ahead of predicted periods of heavy rain over the next few days.
Rainfall tomorrow is of particular concern, with a predicted six to 12 hour period of persistent downpours from late morning.
At this stage forecasts suggest that there may be a respite on Sunday before more heavy rain on Monday.
With the ground already saturated, the forecast rain could cause some rivers to rise quickly and put local communities at risk.
The Environment Agency warned the rainfall could lead to localised flooding from runoff and drains unable to cope with the increased volumes of water, a problem that has dogged many Flintshire towns this year.
The Agency is reminding people to listen to local weather reports and updates in the media.
They should also find out if they are at risk from river flooding by going to the Agency’s website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/flood or calling Floodline on 0845 9 88 11 88.
Jeremy Parr, Flood Risk Manager, Environment Agency Wales, said: "We are expecting to see a lot of rain over the next five days, particularly on Friday.
"With the ground already water logged these bands of rain could raise river levels and cause problems.
"We urge people in areas prone to flooding to be on their guard," he added.
