A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl was mauled by a dog in a terrifying attack in Flintshire
Rhianna White, pictured, was playing with three of her brothers and sisters on a footpath near the Strand Estate, in Holywell, on Saturday afternoon when she was set upon by a rottweiler dog.
The little girl’s mum Diane Barrett, 32, told the Leader: “My older daughter was twizzing her round and when she fell to the floor the dog just attacked.
"My other daughter tried to put her on a wall to get her away from the dog, but it was pulling her off by the leg.
“It had her by the head at one point, it was just intent on attacking her.”
Passers-by eventually dragged the dog off the child and she was rushed to Glan Clwyd hospital.
She suffered puncture wounds to her thigh and ankle and has been left with bite marks all over her body.
Diane added: “I just want to say thank you to the people who helped my daughter. I don’t know their names, but the hospital told me that if it wasn’t for those people then it could have been a lot worse.”
Diane said Rhianna is recovering well at their home in Mostyn and she is expected to be back at Bryn Pennant County Primary School later this week.
She added: “Fortunately she’s a very upbeat little girl, she takes everything in her stride and she has been talking openly about it.
"It’s my oldest daughter who is more upset as she feels she couldn’t help her sister.”
Rhianna was visiting her stepfather Terry Ketley, in Holywell, with her 13-year-old sister Jade, 12-year-old sister Emma and eight-year-old brother Casey when the attack happened.
A spokesman for North Wales Police said they had launched an investigation into the attack, but said no-one had yet been arrested or charged.
