Wrexham owner's plea after £2,000 bike theft

A WREXHAM man is convinced his property was ‘cased’ by thieves who broke into his garage to steal possessions, including a £2,000 motocross bike.

Kenneth Smith, of Heol Ddyfrdwy, is appealing for information following the break-in, which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He believes the thieves live locally.

The burglary is the latest in a spate of thefts from outbuildings and vehicles in the Johnstown area in recent days.

Mr Smith said: “They must have known what they were after because as well as the bike they took everything linked to it – the helmet, gloves, and boots.

“I usually leave the car in the garage, but they waited until the one night when it was out on the drive so they could get the bike out before breaking in.

“They even opened the door of the fridge-freezer we have in the garage to give them some light to see.”

As well as the theft of the Honda CRF250 twin exhaust bike and accompanying gear, the thieves also took two generators – a Honda EU20i and Rockworth 4HP, worth a combined £350.

Mr Smith believes the burglars scaled a five foot high fence around his property before gaining access to the garage by breaking concrete slabs above the entrance.
To make their getaway with the bike they then had to break the lock on a steel gate to get out.

“They crept in and then had to break out once they were inside,” said Mr Smith.

“They knew what they were doing, which is why we think they must have been watching the property and are local to the area.”

Police have confirmed they are investigating and appealed for anyone with information to telephone 0845 607 1002.

The incident, which occurred some time between 1am and 6am on Saturday, follows a spate of thefts in Johnstown on Tuesday, October 13.

Items ranging from quad bikes to power tools were taken from vehicles and outbuildings on a number of streets, with police revealing they intended to step up patrols in the area as a result.
