AN INSPIRATIONAL Flintshire youngster will find out today if she has been named Britain’s kindest kid.

Katie Alicia Poole, from Saltney, has reached the final of the Charities Aid Foundation and Five News competition.

As one of the finalists the 13-year-old got to meet prime minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah in a reception at 10 Downing Street.

She also met the judges, including newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky and TV presenter Melinda Messenger.

Katie’s parents foster children who have had experienced trauma early on in life.

She supports the children and helps them develop their confidence and social skills.

Katie was also involved in setting up a service called Stepping Stones, which offers days out for foster carers’ children.

Her story has featured on Five News and the winner will be announced live on the same programme this evening.

‘Britain's Kindest Kid’ has been set up to reward the charitable work done by children.

Applicants had to demonstrate the amazing things they have done to support charities and help others.

The winner will be awarded £1,000 for themselves and a further £1,000 in Charities Aid Foundation vouchers.

Natasha Kaplinsky said: “Meeting these incredible children who are giving something back to society at a young age is inspirational and humbling.

"Every entrant should be congratulated on the difference they are making to others and we are looking forward to unveiling this year’s winner and making a big difference to their lives.”
