A MAJOR event to celebrate Wales’ newest world heritage site culminated in a spectacular firework display.

Earlier this summer Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal was granted world heritage Status, joining the ranks of elite heritage sites like the Taj Mahal and Acropolis.

To mark the achievement, a public celebration was held on Saturday at Trevor Basin.

Entertainment included stalls, activities, fairground-rides, face-painting, falconry displays, ferret racing, puppet shows, a magician and ventriloquist.

Visitors also had the chance to listen to the world-famous Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, see demonstrations of traditional canal crafts and find out how the aqueduct and canal were built.
