PETROL is on its way back to Llangollen after an independent superstore made an offer to buy a disused car showroom and filling station in the town.
Stan’s Superstore – known for its competitively priced fuel – has placed an undisclosed bid for the site on Berwyn Street, formerly owned by CA Hughes and Son.
The family-run Stan’s Superstore was established in St Martin’s, near Oswestry, in 1947 by the late Stan Faulks.
His son and current co-owner Peter Faulks said: “A price has been agreed with the vendors and the matter is now in the hands of both sets of solicitors, and we will be applying for a petrol station and convenience store.
“If everything goes ahead as planned, we are really looking forward to going to Llangollen and looking forward to serving the community as they have not had petrol for some time.
"We are keen to open as soon as possible, but it is in the legal wheels now which takes some time.”
He added that if all the plans go ahead, the filling station is likely to be up and running in the new year as there is a lot of work to be done on the site.
The company has been interested in the 3,000sq ft site for around three years and this was the third offer Stan’s had submitted. It could bring between 15-20 jobs to the town.
The plans include eight double fuel pumps, a small car park and a convenience store.
- Stan’s Superstore has submitted plans to build a 3,000 sq ft store in Gresford. Andrew Faulks, co-owner of Stan’s, said the whole building, on the site of the former Kay Bee Heating Store, now being used by Liquidation Retail Services, would be 7,000 sq ft.
