TWO budding performers will take to the world stage as part of a major art project in Trafalgar Square later this month.

Rick Smythe, 21, from Gwernymynydd and Sean Williams, 20 from Buckley have been selected as two of just 2,400 people who will occupy the ‘fourth plinth’ for an hour slot this August, as part of Antony Gormley’s ‘One & Other’ project.

The two friends were chosen from over 30,000 entrants from around the world to take part in the living artwork devised by Gormley, best known for creating the Angel of the North.

Psychology student and amateur poet Sean will spending his 60 minutes of fame on the 23ft plinth reciting short stories in front of thousands of tourists in the capital on Wednesday, August 19.

The day will also mark Sean’s 21st birthday.

Best friend Rick will play songs on his guitar to entertain the crowd when he takes to the plinth on Thursday, August 13.
