A POLICE watchdog is investigating claims that a Flintshire mother raised concerns with officers before she was stabbed to death.
Karen Diane McGraw died at the Countess of Chester hospital on Thursday after being attacked at her home on Tecwyn Drive, Connah’s Quay on Thursday last week.
Trevor Mark Ferguson, 49, from Cheshire, was arrested shortly afterwards and was charged with her murder.
It has emerged the 50-year-old mum-of-four had contacted North Wales Police with concerns before she died and the matter is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
A spokesman said the investigation will focus on police contact with Ms McGraw from April 2009 until her death.
Tom Davies, IPCC commissioner, said: “This is a tragic case in which Karen McGraw sadly died.
“Our investigation is examining the actions taken by officers and how they responded to the initial concerns raised by Ms McGraw.”
Leading tributes to her mother, Ms McGraw’s daughter Kimberley said: “Our family are devastated by her sudden and tragic death.”
She added: “We ask that all her friends and everyone who knew her remember her at her happiest and not as she was when she was so cruelly taken from us at such a young age.
“We would like to thank everybody for their messages of support, condolences and the many flowers they have laid at her home.”
- Trevor Mark Ferguson appeared before Wrexham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, charged with the murder of Karen McGraw. He was remanded in custody and will appear before Caernarfon Crown Court on Friday, August 7.
