MOTORISTS have been warned of a road will remain closed until the end of Friday for repairs after fire crews were called out to tackle a HGV blaze in Bangor on Dee.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed shortly after 4.30am on Thursday that crews were in attendance at the incident, on Whitchurch Road - which resulted in the closure of the A525.

A spokesman said: "There's also smoke in the vicinity so we're advising properties to close windows and doors as a precaution. Please avoid the area."

Just before 8.30am, the fire service confirmed to the Leader that one of the initially mobilised four crews remains on site, monitoring hotspots.

An environmental protection unit was also mobilised but was not required.

There were thankfully no casualties in the incident, the spokesman added.

As of 3pm, North Wales Police confirmed the road remains fully closed.

Wrexham Council has confirmed a diversion has been put in place via the B5426 Straight Mile, then A528 via Overton and A539 Penley to rejoin the A525 at Eglwys Cross.

A spokesman said: "[The] diversion will be in place until end of day Friday (June 30) as resurfacing work will need to take place ahead of re-opening due to vehicle fire damage to the road."
