A signed photograph of football legend Pele has sold for £1,000 at the Mayor of Mold charity dinner dance and charity auction evening.

Mayor of Mold Councillor Haydn Jones held his Mayoral Dinner and dance recently at the Beaufort Park Hotel in New Brighton.

The evening was a sell-out event, attended by Civic Heads from neighbouring councils, local businesses, organisations and family and friends and at the end of the evening the Mayor is delighted to announce £6,400 was raised for the Mayors Charity Appeal.

The highlight of the evening was the Grand Auction with 19 amazing auction lots all very generously donated by local businesses.

Bidding was lively with all lots receiving numerous bids, but the star of the evening was a signed framed photo of legendary footballers Pelé and Bobby Moore, signed by Pelé, which was sold for £1,000!

The photograph was donated by Andy Nicholls from The Mancave on Wrexham Street, Mold, who had previously had the photograph on sale within his shop.

After Pelé passed away in December last year, Andy removed the photograph from sale and decided to donate the photo to raise money for local charities and the Mayor met with Andy to collect the photo.

Mayor of Mold Councillor Jones said “I have known Andy since he was a teenager and as soon as I contacted Andy to ask if he would consider donating towards the evening's auction, he didn’t hesitate and offered me the Pelé and Bobby Moore photo straight away, and I am extremely grateful for his support.

"If you’ve not visited Andy’s shop The Mancave on Wrexham Street you should go along, he has a fantastic collection of signed sports memorabilia along with music and film memorabilia, a collectors paradise!”

Cllr Jones added: “My charity dinner has been the highlight of my Mayoral year so far, it was a fantastic evening and the icing on the cake was the £6,400 that has been raised for my chosen charities.

"I would like to thank all the businesses who sponsored the evening; Mega Electric NW, MJP Evolutions and the Synthite, thanks to all the businesses who donated prizes to the auction and raffle and to everyone who attended.”

All proceeds from the evening will go to the Mayor’s ‘Save a Life, Make a Difference’ appeal which this year is supporting Mold Community Hospital League of Friends, Mold Alex Football Club and North Wales Bowel Cancer Support, all causes that are very close to Councillor Jones’ heart.
