Caia Park railway fan builds his own 130-foot train track in front garden

A CAIA Park railway fan has been busy building his own train line in his front garden.

The 00 gauge model layout, which has so far reached more that 130 feet in track length, was built by Gwenfro resident Edward (Eddie) Martin, who has enjoyed the hobby for more than 30 years.

Mr Martin, 45, a member of Wrexham and District Model Railway Club, said: “I think it was my dad who got me into railways, he worked for Great Western. Then one day in school someone mentioned model railways to me and I was interested.

“I like building them – this has taken me about four weeks to build and we’re up to 134 feet long now. I think I might build another 20 feet or so.

”There's still a lot of work to do, such as bridges, tunnels and viaducts. I'll just keep on building and adding to the layout.

“People have been able to see it as they walk past and they are impressed by it.”

Mr Martin added he is hoping to enter his garden into the annual garden competition run by Caia Park Environmental Group.
