Wrexham AFC: New signing Iffy Allen handed challenge by Dean Keates

DEAN KEATES has challenged new signing Iffy Allen to earn a longer contract.

The 22-year-old winger has joined Wrexham until the end of the season after impressing the Reds’ boss on trial.

Allen was a free agent after leaving Aldershot Town in December, having made 22 appearances for the Shots in the first half of the season, and he also played for Torquay United in the National League last season.

“Iffy has played at this level before for two clubs, he is only young and already played 20 games in this division before Christmas,” said Keates.

“Like everybody else in the building, it is an opportunity to stake a claim if you want to be part of it long term.

“We can have a look at him in games and he can have a look at us as a club going forward to see how we operate.

“The ball is in his court now to get in the squad and when he gets on the pitch, do a bit of business.”

Keates believes Allen, who has also played for Barnet and Yeovil, offers something different and has been impressed with him in training.

“Iffy has done well in the little bits and pieces that he has been with us,” said Keates, who could include Allen in the squad for Saturday’s visit of Gateshead.

“He is different to what we have got in that he has pace to go past people.”
