CHESTER recorded a much-needed 1-0 victory at Southport on Saturday, ending their run of four straight defeats.

Here's how the Blues' players rated in their latest win, with Sam Hughes collecting man-of-the-match for a sterling display at centre-back.

ALEX LYNCH: A much more commanding display in between the sticks from Lynch, and dependable handling throughout. 7

LUKE GEORGE: Shifted to right-back and was given a tough time of it by Lindon Meikle before forced off at half-time. 6

SAM HUGHES: Back in the heart of defence and produced an outstanding display of power in the air and composure on the ball. 8

RYAN ASTLES: Looked better with Hughes back alongside and produced a series of important tackles and won his fair share in the air. 7

JOHNNY HUNT: Chester don't half miss Hunt when he's out, and the left-back showed exactly why he is so crucial with a number of vital interceptions and surges forward. 7

WADE JOYCE: Took a while to warm to the task and caught out positionally in the first-half but to his credit his performance got much better. 6

RYAN LLOYD: A full-blooded performance  in the centre with a number of crunching tackles and calmness in possession. 7

TOM SHAW: Hit the post with an early shot and unlucky to be forced off injury after a clash of knees with Higgins. 6

EVAN HORWOOD: Full of running and neat crossing on the left before he grabbed the winner with a spectacular lobbed finish. 7

KANE RICHARDS: His brightest performance since the turn of the year. Lots of intelligent runs and didn't shirk the physical battle. 7

JAMES ALABI: Not quite at his brutal best and was well marshalled for long periods by Southport's defence. 7

Replacements:

THEO VASSELL: Introduced at half-time in place of the injured George, but looked rusty after two weeks out injured. 6

ELLIOTT DURRELL: Got more than he bargained for when brought on in the 55th minute but did everything asked of him. 6

CRAIG MAHON: Great to see the Irishman back on the pitch after injury problems and looked bright on the ball. 6
