PUPILS were delighted to receive a Christmas card from a Premier League and Wales international football star.

Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen sent two children at St Mary’s Primary School in Nercwys a festive card after they forwarded him a biography of himself they wrote as part of their school work.

As part of their English project, children wrote biographies and they all chose who they wanted to write it about.

Pupils Lottie Hooigan and Eve Allen, both 11, wrote biographies about Allen and sent him their work.

In return he sent back a Christmas card to the delighted duo, thanking them for their efforts and describing the biographies as “brilliant”.

He wished the pair good luck with their schoolwork and expressed his wish for them to enjoy a great Christmas.

Headteacher Janet Meaden said: “One of the pupils suggested on her own we send the biographies to the people they had written them about, so we did and Joe Allen responded.

“It was a lovely surprise for the two girls as it arrived on the last day of term and we didn’t realise it was from Joe Allen.

“It was nice that he had taken the time to respond.”

Allen began his career with Swansea City, enjoying a brief loan spell with Wrexham as a youngster.

He spent four years with Liverpool before moving to Stoke last year.

He was part of the Wales Euro 2016 side and a member of Team GB’s men’s football squad at the London 2012 Olympics.
