Motorists and cyclists vent rage over potholes on Wrexham and Flintshire roads

THE plague of potholes in Wrexham and Flintshire has sparked anger amongst road users.

After Leader journalist Joanne Shone wrote about the high number of potholes she encountered on a journey from Mold to Wrexham, people took to social media to have their say on the issue.

Many have expressed their dismay over the issue of potholes on the roads.

Many argued the issue was not just between Wrexham and Mold but had been a headache everywhere.

Bruce Clapton argued that the situation is even worse for cyclists.

He said: “You think it’s bad to drive on in your car... you want to try cycling on them... an absolute death trap!”

Other people took to social media to express anger over specific issues on the roads.

Wrexham resident Katrina Povey said: “The road has been marked out for over a week between Pontblyddyn and Caergwrle at every pothole.

“Do we know when they are actually going to fix them?”

Hayley Hughes said: “You should see the road I live on in Rhostyllen, it’s terrible, always has been and can’t see it ever being repaired.”

Resident Andrea Hurst expressed her anger over the temporary repairs often carried out on the roads.

She said: “The council must spend thousands on contractors to come and bodge our roads.

“They are always seen to be repairing at the end of the financial year which also happens to be the wettest time of the year.

“It’s false economy to pay someone to repair the road when the following week it will be lifted with heavy rainfall!

“When are they going to spend our hard earned cash wisely?”

Almost 100 people pursued claims against Wrexham Council in 2013-14 and 55 claimed against Flintshire Council because of potholes.

Flintshire Council has invested more than £4.5m in roads across the county since 2012 and its principal highway network was independently verified as the best maintained in Wales.

Wrexham’s roads have been identified as being among the worst maintained in the country.
