The road was closed for several hours in both directions while emergency crews dealt with the incident, but it was reopened shortly before 5pm.

A North Wales Ambulance spokesman said that one woman was airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.

Llanbedr DC county councillor, Huw Williams, said: "I am thinking of the victim and their family, it must be a very difficult time.

"This road is in my ward but it is not one that I have had concerns about before."

North Wales Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward by calling 101 using incident number U030991.
