A VILLAGE sporting facility has been targeted by vandals and arsonists.
Brymbo councillor Paul Rogers said the Bronwen Green football pitch, off Pool Road in the village, has been targeted on a number of occasions over the last month.
On Saturday, he found that motorbikes had been used to churn up the small pitch, sometimes used for training by junior football clubs.
Cllr Rogers said: “Two weeks earlier I went up there and saw a fridge had been set on fire next to a container, and an extractor fan in the changing rooms had also been set on fire.
“It caused damage to the paintwork, and grass which had been cut had also been set on fire.”
Cllr Rogers said he was extremely disappointed by this behaviour and would be urging North Wales Police to take action.
“As local councillor I am extremely disappointed that the actions of a minority are ruining facilities for the village,” he said.
“The damage to the pitch by motorbikes is unacceptable, on top of the arson, but more importantly this behaviour needs to stop before someone is hurt.
“The community council are investing heavily in this site so people of all ages can benefit.
“It’s really frustrating when this happens.”
A spokesman for North Wales Police said: “We can confirm we received a complaint in the first week of August, about an arson to the changing rooms at the football pitch in Brymbo.
“Anyone with any information about acts of criminal damage should report them to the police on 101.
“The crime reference number (for the arson) is RC14122831.”
