Despair after new vandal attack strikes Buckley business

A BUSINESS in the process of a major expansion has been targeted by vandals for the second time in two months, with memorial headstones damaged.

Grantech Limited and Buckley Memorials has had its windows smashed and fences damaged at its site on Spencer Industrial Estate at Liverpool Road in Buckley.

It is the latest case of vandalism at the business in the past few months, with managing director Gregg Ashfield having told the Leader in May of his frustration after yobs smashed windows and memorial headstones and damaged diggers nearby.

Speaking following the latest attack, Mr Ashfield said: “We’ve had yet more damage to the site.

“Headstones have been damaged as well. It’s beyond a joke now.”

Mr Ashfield says he is prepared to offer a £1,000 reward for information leading to the culprits being prosecuted.

“It’s costing thousands each month and it’s getting ridiculous,” he said.

“The two headstones they’ve smashed cost £2,000 each.”

The earlier incident occurred as work began on the development of a new building which Mr Ashfield said would help to create a dozen new jobs.

Now the businessman says he is tired with dealing with the same problems repeatedly.

“It’s over and over again. It has become a playground for these yobs,” he said. “I’m so angry and exasperated by all. It’s malicious damage. It’s unacceptable.”

Buckley Memorials office administrator Jane Pritchard, was one of the first to be notified of the latest incident.

She said: “Everything was fine on Wednesday then when we went up to the site, we found the damage.

“It’s terrible. It’s the same thing all over again.”

A police spokesman said they had been notified of

the damage yesterday morning.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is asked contact officers on 101 and quote reference number R113466.
